Ration Stamps Remembered

I was 11 years old, and I was at my friend’s house when my father told us that Pearl Harbor had been bombed. We went right home.

After the war was over, when I turned 18, I was drafted to Korea, but I never had to go to Korea. I was in the army for two years.

Ration stamps were issued to the family, then passed to the store when food, gas, etc., was purchased. Just a certain amount of things could be obtained.

Ration stamps background:

During World War II Ration stamps were widely used by both sides because the war caused interruption to the normal supply of goods. Ration stamps were also used to help maintain the amount of food one could hold at a time. This prevented hoarding of food during the war.
